I wish I could think of some profound insight regarding this one, but I’m stumped. I really, really like it though. It’s just that sometimes the meaning of the image doesn’t always reveal itself right away. Many times it never does, and those are usually the works I admire most.
The meeting with the SheShrink went a little better this time. At least she didn’t look at my chart again and ask “So, how is group therapy going with Dr. WhatsHisName?” when it was obvious to anyone who could read English that I haven’t seen that doctor since 1994.
(I tell you, if there’s anything I can’t tolerate its incompetence.)
Anyway, we upped the dosage, I got my prescription, and I left without scheduling a follow-up appointment.
Done and done.
(Just like February. Ack!)
Monday Music Mambo, #88
February 27, 2006 | 3 Comments
This just in from the home office in Mamboville…
Greetings everyone! Another Monday is here, and with it comes a chance to mambo. Today’s theme is Cigar Day, but I don’t know how that applies to music. I’ll just ask some random questions.
1. What’s your favorite movie about music?
I really like the movie “Almost Famous”. Even Kate Hudson is likeable as the roadie ho Penny Lane. Here are some of my favorites from the soundtrack:
Todd Rundgren – It Wouldn’t Have Made Any Difference
Yes – I’ve Seen All Good People
2. What’s your favorite music concert video?
It’s a tie between The Doobie Brothers — Rockin’ Down the Highway: The Wildlife Concert and John Fogerty: Live By Request. Both are excellent! Here are some studio versions of some of the songs from each concert. (Of course, the Fogerty songs listed are from his days with Creedence Clearwater Revival, but let’s not kid ourselves. He was CCR.)
Doobie Brothers ~ Long Train Runnin’
Creedence Clearwater Revival — Fortunate Son
Creedence Clearwater Revival — Lodi
Creedence Clearwater Revival — Green River
3. What do you pay more attention to in a song: the music or the lyrics?
It depends on my mood, really. The melody is about feeling; the lyrics are about thinking. It’s a beautiful thing when those two aspects can mesh, but some days they just don’t go together for me.
4. Here’s a serious question involving a touchy situation. You’ve won a backstage pass to meet your favorite band! You go there after the show, very excited to meet everyone. When you arrive, you see some of the band members doing something illegal (drugs, weapons, etc.). After you’ve greeted the band, had them sign autographs, etc., do you tell anyone what you saw? Or do you keep quiet because you’re sure they do this kind of thing all the time and it’s no big deal?
Oooh… interesting question.
This is what I think. Band members doing drugs and waving around guns – well, they are adults (stupid ass ones, but still adults) and they can make their own choices. However, let me see one underage kid backstage being taken advantage of sexually or being put in harm’s way, and the world is going to hear about it. Remind me to always smuggle a camera along when I go to hang out with the band.
Gawd, I’m such a narc.
That’s it for the Mambo this week, my friends. Snag ‘em if you want ‘em — they’re hot for a week!
Have a great Monday,
Giddyup.

I go back to see the SheShrink tomorrow for a re-check and to talk about how the Zoloft is working.
I think it’s going pretty well, but I am going to suggest that we bump the dosage up. I mean, it’s a little hard to tell what I am supposed to feel like, you know? When you go from feeling Mega-Shitty and Having Major Ideations to simply Micro-Shitty with The Usual Ideations, it’s definitely a vast improvement. But what if I have the potential to go to Nada-Shitty with No Ideations Whatsoever with an increased dosage? I realize that would be a long shot – no, a bona fide miracle – but fuck it, I think it would be nice to feel that way for awhile.
At least until the Zoloft eventually fizzles out on me, too. (I’m such a cynic anymore.)
But honestly, the med switches are so frustrating. I feel like a cowgirl that needs to keep heading back to the corral for a fresh horse because the one I’m riding decides it wants to lie down and take a nap. Or graze in a pasture while I plead with it to just keep moving forward.
Or, maybe I discover that the dillhole running the corral gave me a nanny goat to ride and she was just never meant for the job. Stupid fucking dillhole.
Also, when I talk to the SheShrink at the appointment I’m not going to mention the fact that I have no intentions of keeping her on as my doctor after tomorrow and that I already have another doctor (with long-term potential) lined up. Maybe if I am lucky, the whole meeting with her will take less than 5 minutes and I can get out of there without her having to awkwardly pretend she knows what she is doing or that she is interested in me.

This piece started out as a vintage black and white photo of twin sisters. I’ve had it in my archives for nearly 3 years now and finally got the call to do something with it. I have no idea who the little girls are, but I hope they don’t mind that I gave them new names. Melanie means “dark” and Phoebe means “light”… sometimes I can’t decide who fits each description better, though the twin on the left seems a bit more mischievous, doesn’t she?

Appetizer:
Choose one: moving to another state, having triplets, or never being able to eat chocolate again.
As much as I love my home state of Iowa, I’d definitely choose to move first. No way in hell I’d want to pop out a litter of kids all at once… or stop my love affair with My Dark Master, the Cocoa Bean.
Soup:
Name a news story that truly shocked you.
The news about Andrea Yates drowning her five children. It still stuns me when I think about it, and to hear that she’s probably going to get a new trial just leaves me speechless.
Salad:
What was your very first job?
I started babysitting when I was about 13, if I recall correctly. You know you’re a great babysitter when you get booked three months in advance for New Year’s Eve. ![]()
Main Course:
If you had the chance to read the diary of someone you’re really close to, would you? Why or why not?
No, I’d never intrude on someone’s privacy like that. Everyone deserves their private thoughts. Also, I figure that if I’ve allowed them to become really close to me they’ve passed all of the important tests anyway, so I don’t think there’s much else I’d need to know.
Dessert:
What’s something you’re looking forward to?
My next group show or solo art exhibition. It’s been too long since my last one, and I’d like to see my new work on display. It might be awhile, but I’m slowly working towards making this happen.
Hearin’ it: Jer’s flipping through the channels and he’s stopped on a cooking show. They’re making something with sauerkraut and homemade sausage. I am hearing myself DROOL.
Readin’ it: Digital Art Studio: Techniques for Combining Inkjet Printing and Traditional Artist’s Materials by Karin Schminke
Lovin’ it: Answers.com. I especially like the “1-Click Answers” program. Try it!
Quotin’ it: “Well huzzah, huzzah. I’ll just throw back my legs and pollute my britches with delight.” -Mr. Burns, The Simpsons
