Monday Music Mambo, late as usual. :P

October 31, 2007 | Leave a Comment

This arrived on Monday from the home office in Mamboville…

Greetings one and all! Today is the Internet’s Birthday! Where would we be without it? Not here, that’s for certain.

Name a few of your favorite music websites.

They can be anything - web 2.0 sites, artist websites, or even amazon.com if you like. Just be sure they’re sites that have to do with music, and you’re good to go!

Well, of course there are the Official Websites for my top three favorite musicians…

Bob Dylan

Bob Dylan ~ Watching The River Flow

Bob Dylan - House Carpenter

Bob Dylan - Stuck Inside of Mobile (With The Memphis Blues Again)

Eric Clapton

Eric Clapton - My Father’s Eyes

Eric Clapton - After Midnight

Eric Clapton - Swing Low, Sweet Chariot

Van Morrison

And even though it’s not “official” this Van Morrison website is AWESOME:

The Van Morrison Website

Van Morrison ~ Celtic New Year

Van Morrison ~ Into the Mystic

Van Morrison - Wild Night

I also like these places:

Stevie Nicks “The Nicks Fix”. The pictures are purty. :grin:

Stevie Nicks w/ Fleetwood Mac - Stand Back

Stevie Nicks w/ Fleetwood Mac - Sara

Stevie Nicks w/ Fleetwood Mac - Gypsy

Stevie Nicks - Edge of Seventeen

Classic Rock Revisited. Pretty cool. Even has quizzies!

Little Steven’s Underground Garage. Weirdass. ‘Nuff said.

Pitchfork. Kind of pretentious and bitchy, but still very good.

Soul-Sides. Word to yo’ mama. She likes the slow jamz, duntshe?

Pandora. Fun internet radio - lots of great tunes to listen to.

Stereogum. Dude. Duuuuuuuude.

And for lyrics research, I like:

Lyrics Freak. They have almost everything you can think of.

************

That’s the Mambo for this week, children! Visit the websites and have fun. Listen to the music and have even more fun. :wink:

Other than that, I am all chattered out for the night. I visited with Dr. K on Tuesday and now I am trying to decide if I should go ahead and spring for a full frontal lobotomy, or just have them take a little off the sides.

(Just kidding. I think…)

:weird:

  1. Inaugural :: Please don’t elect that evil bitch.
  2. Pledge :: Boy Scout
  3. String :: Silly
  4. Trot :: Fox
  5. Fitness :: ugh… work out.
  6. Cinder :: that dog at the antique shop
  7. Edge :: brownies
  8. 31 :: prime number
  9. Blue :: walnuts
  10. Leather :: cheek-chillers

Now that was an embarrassing little foray into my subconscious. Don’t ask about the walnuts, it’s complicated.

Subconscious. Psyche. Mental. Mental health…

Speaking of which, I feel myself slipping downward again. Just a little. Lots of factors in play, I think – the most likely cause is the recent adjustment in medication levels. The latest mood leveling drug is still working fine, but as I am bumping up the dosage on that one, I am trying to get the antidepressant to the lowest therapeutic dose possible. I think I may have cut it down too far. Back to the laboratory for more experimenting, I guess.

Other contributing factors: the recent road trip to visit family, the upheaval in the house due to some remodeling projects, the occasional flashbacks, pre-holiday funk… and just an odd feeling of uncertainty about nearly everything else right now except Jerry and other people who love me. (Those are the most essential parts of my life, though, so I shouldn’t complain too loudly.)

It has become apparent, however, that I simply cannot miss a week or two of therapy without feeling like my head is going to explode. (Picture one of those car tires on the highway, steel belts frayed all over the place. That would be me, right there.)

It’s an uncomfortable thing to vacillate wildly each week between thinking that “life is too short” and “life is waaaay too long”.

But then I realize how much progress I’ve made on this most recent medication, and I am grateful. That same vacillation used to occur from minute to minute.

Still I can’t help but wonder what it feels like to have life be not too short or not too long, but just right.

That really does exist doesn’t it?

(Say “yes”. Thank you. Carry on.)

Come here, my pretty…

No Halloween party would be complete without these cookies! They make me want to poke somebody with one. *cackle*

Wicked Witch Fingers
Yield: 5 dozen

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup powdered sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp almond extract
1 1/2 tsps vanilla
2 2/3 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup whole blanched almonds
raspberry or other red berry jelly
Optional: Enough green food coloring to make the dough really wicked.

In bowl, beat together butter, sugar, egg, almond extract and vanilla. Stir dry ingredients together, then add to wet and stir thoroughly. Cover and refrigerate 30 minutes.

clip_image001.jpg

Working with one quarter of the dough at a time and keeping remainder refrigerated, roll a scant tablespoon full (using a 1 oz. cookie scoop is perfect) of dough into a thin log shape about 4″ long for each cookie. Squeeze close to center and close to one end to create knuckle shapes. Press almond firmly into the end of the cookie for nail. Using paring knife, make slashes in several places to form knuckle. You want them a bit thin and gangly looking, since they’ll puff a little when you bake them.

Place on lightly greased baking sheets (or use silicone sheets or parchment); bake in 325F oven for 20-25 minutes or until pale golden. Let cool for a few minutes.

Meanwhile, melt jelly over low heat in a small saucepan or nuke it in the microwave until melted.

clip_image002.jpg

Carefully lift almond off of each finger, spoon a tiny amount of jelly onto nail bed and press almond back in place so the jelly oozes out from underneath. You can also make slashes in the finger and fill them with “blood”.

Serve with a cup of Witch’s Brew or your favorite Magic Potion…

Enjoy, you little goblins! *HIC*
